All funds go to support the National Kidney Foundation of Wisconsin's programs and services for organ, tissue, and eye donors and families across Wisconsin.

Show your support of organ, tissue, and eye donation at the 2016 Capital City 5K to raise awareness for the gift of life. The 5K, USATF certified event is managed by Next Level Sports and takes place on a beautiful summer evening in Madison, WI. The run/walk begins at twilight on the Capitol Square, winds along a Lake Monona path, and ends at Goodman Park with a private pool party. Children 11 and under can join in the fun as well by signing up for the Cap City Kids Club!

This celebration of life has become a Madison tradition, bringing together families, friends, and supports as champions for donation. Over 2,300 families in Wisconsin are hoping that their loved one will get a life-saving transplant. All proceeds support the National Kidney Foundation of Wisconsin and their programs  #CapitalCity5K

5K Parking and Transportation — BIG changes this year!

Alliant Energy Center is the hub for parking and shuttle transportation this year (Do not park at Goodman Pool or Downtown).

Participant (Runners and Walkers) Shuttles BEFORE The Event
All participants should park at Alliant Energy Center — it’s FREE!  Participant shuttles will run from Alliant Energy Center (in front of the Exhibition Hall — Look for the tent!) to the Capitol Square start line beginning at 4:30 p.m.  The last shuttle run from Alliant Energy Center to the Capitol Square leaves at 5:45 p.m.  There are no participant shuttles going between Alliant Energy Center and Goodman Pool before the 5K. (Due to City parking restrictions at Goodman Pool, packet pickup times have changed for 2016 to Friday evening from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Clarion Madison Hotel and Saturday from 11:30 - 1:00 p.m. at Alliant Energy Center).

Spectator Shuttle BEFORE The Event
All finish line spectators should park at Alliant Energy Center — it’s FREE! There will be one bus that will run one time from Alliant Energy Center to Goodman Pool. This shuttle will leave Alliant Energy Center at 6:00 p.m. This is the only time a bus will run from Alliant Energy Center to Goodman Pool.  (Important: Please make sure you are getting on the Spectator bus to Goodman Pool, not the Participant bus to the Capitol Square!)

Participant and Spectator Shuttles AFTER The Event
Beginning at 7:30 p.m., shuttle buses will run between Goodman Pool and Alliant Energy Center.  The shuttle will pick up riders by the front entrance to Goodman Pool.  The last shuttle pick up at Goodman Pool is at 9:15 p.m.

Who can run/walk?
Anyone 12 years and over can walk or run.
Parents have the option to register children 11 and under as Cap City Kids Club members. They will receive a race bib, special club gear, join in family-fun events, and have the chance to take home prizes.

What types of awards are handed out?

  • 5K Race Medals: Overall male/female and age categories winners (12-15; 16-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70+)

  • Top Fundraiser Award
  • Top Fundraising Team Award

How can I win that Top Fundraiser Award?
In addition to raising money online, you can download the Fundraising Guide for tips and the Contribution Form to start raising funds!

What should I bring?
This is a rain or shine event! Bring running gear, swimsuit and towels, water, sweatshirt or jacket, and contributions you raised to support the cause.

Tag photos and posts before, during, and after the event with #CapitalCity5K!  Download the poster to print or share electronically.
