Living Well...With Your Transplant

Living Well  programs are educational sessions designed for transplant recipients and individuals waiting for a transplant. Recipients of any organ and family members are welcome to attend.  Registration for each program is appreciated.

 MILWAUKEE AREA Evening Series

  • January 19, 2012 - Social Networking and the Gadgets You Own
    • Do you know how to use the Internet to safely use transplant websites and social networks?  Whether it's your phone, TV or computer, Dennis Flannery, DMF Consulting, will help you understand it all!
  • February 16, 2012 - Medications Update - Ask the Expert
    • Ever wonder if you know everything about the medications you take?  Attend this special Ask the Expert program featuring Laurie Schenkelberg, PharmD, Froedtert Transplant Pharmacist.  Bring your questions!
  • March 15, 2012 - What About Metabolic Syndrome?
    • 1 in 6 individuals have it.  Are you at risk?  Ehab Saad, MD, FACP, FASN, MA, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Medical College of Wisconsin, will discuss and answer your questions about the risks, prevention and treatment of Metabolic Syndrome.  You will learn how blood pressure, blood sugars, cholesterol and weight increase your risk.

  • April 19, 2012 - The Basics of Estate Planning
    • Evelyn L. Brown, CPA and Attorney-at-Law, DeWitt Ross & Stevens, S.C. will present important information that will help you plan for your family's future.
  • May 17, 2012 - Summertime and the Cooking Is Easy!
    • Back by popular demand, Karen Kritsch, PhD, RD, Transplant Dietitian, UW-Madison and Chef Peter Venturi will create an appetizing evening of information and tasting.  Please pre-register if you plan to attend.

Programs are held in the Community Conference Center, 8700 Watertown Plank Road, Wauwatosa.

Living Donation

These programs will be of interest to anyone who wants more information on living kidney donation and transplant.  Dialysis patients or patients considering transplantation or who are on a waiting list should attend.  Family members, friends and healthcare professionals are welcome.  Experts from Wisconsin transplant centers will share the latest information and answer your questions.

  • How does the kidney transplant waiting list work?
  • What are the benefits of living kidney donation?
  • Who can be a living donor?  What is a humanitarian donor?
  • How do I know if I can be a donor?  What's involved in the surgery?
  • What can I expect during my recovery?
  • How are the expenses of testing and/or the surgery paid for?

To empower and educate individuals affected by chronic kidney disease (CKD), transplantation and donation, the National Kidney Foundation's People Like Us hosts monthly Coffee House Conversations telephone calls.  On these free, interactive calls, you will hear from experts and be given an opportunity to ask them quesions.
