Fact # 66:
Pain, nausea, vomiting, burning during urination, fever or chills may be signs of kidney stones.

The Kidney Walk is a non-competitive, fundraising walk focusing on education and prevention of kidney and urinary tract diseases, and awareness of the need for organ donation. Walkers will have the opportunity to celebrate LIFE with their friends, family, and coworkers as they walk the 1-mile loop around Fox Brook Lake.

The Results Are In!

Congratulations to the 850 walkers who joined us on
Sunday, September 20
to enjoy a beautiful day at Fox Brook Park
for the 5th Annual Kidney Walk!

With your help, we were able to raise over $72,000, which will be used to support our programs and offer services throughout the State of Wisconsin this next year.

Few people realize that we rely completely on contributions to operate.  So, it’s with your help that we are able to continue to offer all of our programs and services FREE OF CHARGE to the thousands of dialysis patients, transplant recipients, family members as well as people with diabetes who live in Wisconsin.

CONGRATULATIONS
to the following teams, team captains, and individual fundraisers:

Briana Kramer of Team LC - Top "Gift of Life" Fundraiser
Briana teamed up with her friends and family to create numerous "mini fundraisers" across the Greater Milwaukee Area to spread the word about the NKFW and the need for organ donors!  Contributing to Briana's success were a "Portion of the Proceeds Night" at Vino 100 in Wauwatosa, a gourmet cheesecake sale, rootbeer float day, letter writing campaign, online fundraising, and MORE!  Briana raised $3,123 to help other kidney recipients, like herself, and to honor living donors, such as her sister Erin.  Congratulations to Briana!

Mike Milsted of Team Tommy - Top "Memorial Tribute" Fundraiser
Mike reached out to his vast personal and professional networks to generate awareness of the patient education programs provided by the NKFW.  A first-time Kidney Walk participant, Mike raised $2,570 in memory of his father-in-law, Tom Sellin.  Mike has already started his fundraising plan for 2010!  Great job Mike!

Team Tommy - Top Overall Fundraising Team
Team Co-Captains Jenny Anderson and DeAnna Milsted united family and friends to walk in the memory of their father and hero, Tom Sellin.  Together, they shared their favorite stories and photos of their beloved father with the community and gathered $4,454 in donations to support FREE educational programs for Wisconsin kidney recipients and their families.

Team Purity - Top Dialysis Team
Led by Nancy Poremski, Team Purity raised $3,081!  Team Purity collected donations and pledges over a four month time period by selling "Kidney Walk Pinups" in dialysis units and promoting the walk to everyone they encountered!  The funds raised by Team Purity will help provide FREE educational materials to dialysis patients across the State!

Kool Beanz - Top Corporate Team
The Northwestern Mutual Financial Network Team, walking in honor of Milan Djukic, collected $3,070 in pledges, sponsorship dollars, and donations.  With over 30 walkers on their team, Kool Beanz and the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network are making a difference in the lives of Wisconsin residents!

ONG - Largest Kidney Walk Team!
Special recognition to Ong Vang and his team.  Joining the Kidney Walk for their first year, Ong's Team recruited 63 walkers!  Starting his team's fundraising goal at $300, Ong and team bypassed their goal in no time at all - raising $1,245 for the NKFW!

Thank you to ALL who participated in the 2009 Kidney Walk.
Today, a portion of your contribution may help to provide a medical identification bracelet to a chronically ill patient; next weekend, a free kidney health or KEEP screening could be offered in a local church or neighborhood center where individuals might not have ready access to medical information.
Please know that EACH and EVERY day, your contribution will help us meet our mission.
